Read Across America day is Monday March 2nd. We will be celebrating one of my favorite authors and reading, reading, reading!!
We have a super special lesson planned for Thursday where students will explore Christopher Columbus' journey to the new world through virtual reality. Thank you to Kathryn Kilkenny, our school Technology Specialist, for putting this lesson together. Stay tuned for pictures!

Understanding and Helping Your Child Manage Anxiety
East Side Parents, you are invited to a special parent session courtesy of Dodgen Middle School: Parent’s Guide Series: Understanding and Helping Your Child Manage Anxiety
Please join us in this educational parent program to learn about anxiety and how to best support your child when they are struggling with emotional regulation. The program will focus on identifying anxiety, the impact of negative thought patterns, and how to support your child at home when symptoms are present. The program is presented by Karen Schwartz, LCSW, School Social Worker, and Teresa Woodruff, LPC, ART-BC, CPCS, Art it Out Director. Autism Speaks
As you know, East Side Elementary believes we have the ability to make a positive difference in our community. With this in mind, East Side has chosen to participate again in Atlanta's Autism Speaks Walk on April 26th to raise awareness about autism directly to our community. Recycle Friday Volunteers Needed! Please sign up to help in the collection of recyclables. This initiative takes three volunteers (one for each floor) every Friday morning from 7:20AM until 8:00AM. Detailed instructions are provided for exactly what to do.

Units of Study for the Upcoming Week:
READING WORKSHOP: We will begin learning how to compare and contrast characters in different books, including the characters’ traits as well as the problems they face. Students will continue meeting with their book clubs.
WRITING WORKSHOP: We will begin publishing and sharing our opinion speeches. We will also look at practicing a narrative writing prompt to prepare for the type of writing students will see on the Milestones.
GRAMMAR/ORTON GILLINGHAM: We will be learning about comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will continue learning about European Exploration. We will assess on Friday.
MATH: We will continue learning about measurement. We will also apply our learning to plotting our data on a line plot. We will assess on Friday.
